Youth Leadership Award
About the Award
The Sankara Youth Leadership Award (SYLA) is an annual accolade honoring outstanding young volunteers who go beyond participation — they initiate new programs, expand existing initiatives into new regions, and actively engage other youth in impactful community service.
Recipients demonstrate genuine leadership and measurable contributions to the communities Sankara serves. This award celebrates the next generation of healthcare advocates and social entrepreneurs.
Eligibility Criteria
Program Initiation
Candidate must have independently initiated a new Sankara program, project, or service — not merely participated in existing ones.
Duration & Activity
The initiative must demonstrate sustained activity over a meaningful period with documented community impact and youth engagement.
Sustainability
The program must show evidence of continuity beyond the candidate's direct involvement — creating lasting structures, not one-time events.
Application Process
Submission Window
July 1–31 annually (starting 2025). Submit through the Sankara Volunteer portal.
Requirements
Detailed statement of initiative, impact metrics, youth engagement evidence, and sustainability plan.
Announcement
Award recipients are announced in August–September each year at a Sankara recognition event.
